Joy ornament card

This is one of my favorite holiday sets from Hero Arts.  The ornaments are the perfect size for cards.   I couldn't wait to use the new Evergreen Bough Distress Ink (from the Winter Season set).  It goes GREAT with Faded Jeans.   I embossed the ornament in white embossing powder and then applied the ink.  I applied ink to white cardstock on teh background piece at first -- Faded Jeans, then Evergreen Bough around the edge.  After that I did the Jill Foster flicking water technique on the paper to make the spots.

Another one for Cards That Care

For some reason snowflakes and teal colored things are really catching my eye this year.  This is so simple it's silly!  :-)

For cards that care

I wanted to make a couple of cards for the Cards that Care card drive and since I have been so attracted to pops of color off of white cards I thought I'd do that on this one.

Giving thanks

for all of my blessings.  One of those blessings is sweet Karen Q, a blog friend who visits often and leaves the nicest comments.   And sometimes she sends me cards that just make my day.  She sent this beautiful Thanksgiving one that I thought you should all enjoy.  Thank you Karen!  You are one of the many people I am thankful for.  HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Another background technique

This card uses the same embossing folder that was used yesterday but the opposite way.  Yesterday I added ink to the raised parts.  This is another Jennifer technique.   I started with this paper.

I applied Versamark ink to the embossing folder on the part that ends up being the non-raised part after it's done. I sprinkled it with white embossing powder so that the only paper showing through is the raised part.  Jennifer did it with a green paper and it was much more dramatic.  I wanted an elegant look so decided to use the lighter paper.   Next time I will do something darker because I like the look of hers better.

And one glitter snowflake survived!

Two posts ago I told you about my totally unsuccessful encounter with glitter.   One of the attempts survived and I used it on this card.

The snowflake suspended in the cut out circle comes from one of Jennifer's cards.  I wanted to try the background technique that Kathy did on a recent card.  Here is the card she did it on... enter at your own risk... it may be hours before you come out!  :-)  Mine isn't nearly that perfect but I decided imperfect was what I was going for! :-) Yea right - heehee.   I embossed the notecard and then applied white ink to the raised areas.  The first time I tried this I swiped it and it got way too much ink.  Kathy told me to dab the pad on it and that worked much better.

I love Target!

I'm waiting for the day when someone stops me in the Target aisle and asks why I am taking pictures of their cards, gift bags, etc.  Fortunately, that didn't happen yesterday when I  was doing just that.  I got some great ideas!  I noticed quite a few things that were really simple.  One image on a plain background.  I was particularly interested in the white on red -- it really grabbed my attention.  I think it's pretty easy to figure out how I made this one.  :-)

I am covered in glitter...

and so is my scrapbook studio.  Yet you won't see a bit of it on today's card!   Jennifer made a card recently with silver vintage glitter.  Neither of us likes glitter.  I decided to get the dreaded stuff out and couldn't make it work on the card.  So I pulled out my trusty Stickles!   So I proceeded to cover some snowflakes and kept messing them up!  Dropping them, dropping something else on them, etc.   It was quite ridiculous.  

So I gave it up and today's card only used "safe" products -- rub- ons and paper.  OK, I went out on a limb and added some Glossy Accents to the eyes -- living on the wild side!  heehee

Christmas ornament card

This is how far behind I am....   We are into Week 2 of the Holiday Card Boot Camp and I'm making a card inspired by Day 1! :-)   I love the card Kristina made and it inspired me to finally get out my Ranger Picket Fence Distress Stain.I love how you can use one kind of paper and create two different ones that you know will go together!    The ornament stamp was embossed with white embossing powder and then inked with Tumbled Glass and Peeled Paint Distress Inks.  I covered it in Glossy Accents to give it a shiny finish.  I don't think I've every put that over such a large surface of distress ink -- it smooths out the colors a bit which I like.   I love the Memory Box die that Jennifer used on Day 1 to create a bow so I cut one out of white paper and covered it with silver leafing pen.    I love the elegance of this design.  Thanks Kristina and Jennifer

Wow!

I don't do alot of cards that have layers of technique-y stuff on them -- you know, like the fabulous things Tim Holtz does.  And I don't link to other blogs that often on mine.  But Tim linked to this blog for a technique that made me gasp.   As soon as my Clear Rock Candy Distress Crackle paint arrives I'm trying this (of course I had to buy it when I saw this project).  Enjoy!
