I thought I'd use a brighter color of embossing powder but make it looked aged. I stamped the image and heat embossed it on Ranger glossy paper. Once it dried and cooled I rubbed Antique Linen all over it to create an aged look (vs. the bright white of the gloss). (Ribbon and button treatment a la Debbie Olson!)
When I think of damask patterns I think of elegance, black and white -- more subdued colors. I saw this tablet at the grocery store .....
and I thought, hmmmm....... Beautiful bright colors (with a hint of metallic even) on glossy white paper. I checked my stash and realized I don't have alot of bright embossing powders but I did have this one.
A totally different look than I ever envisioned with a damask stamp (this one is from Judikins).
and this is what you end up with. Boy this sure isn't what this card looked like in my head! :-) I embossed a manila tag with a Cuttlebug folder and then covered it with Distress Ink Milled Lavendar. Mistake number one --- doing it on Manila. Came out this kind of odd color. I find myself reaching for the manila tags because the ink just goes on so smoothly on that surface. But sometimes it's just not the right choice.
The flower really does have hints of purple in it -- and it looks better in real life. I thought about not posting it but I thought, sometimes it just is what it is. All cards don't turn out the way we think and they aren't all masterpieces. :-) But when my niece, Sami, receives it I doubt she will even care. Especially since it's going to have a VISA gift card in it! heehee
I wanted to make Olivia a cheery, bright card. And this Hero butterfly stamp was calling out to me. And screaming for some glittery embossing! :-) The blue strip on the right is a Hero stamp clear embossed also. A plain piece of paper just seemed too blah to me.

One of the wonderful things about doing the Cards for Kate card drive is that as I make the cards I am thinking about them every minute while I'm making them. Alot of love goes into these cards and I'm sure the same is true for all of you who are making them.
This one is for Aaron and Holly. This verse is my very favorite and one that I turn to often. I hope it brings them at least some comfort.
I want to tell you about the blue background technique -- so easy -- uses Distress Inks. This one used Broken China. You cover the paper with ink using the application tool and a foam applicator. I intentionally made it uneven to give it more interest. Then you take a mini mister and spray just a bit of water on a stamp and stamp with it. Because Distress Ink is water soluble as it dries it fans out a bit giving it a really pretty effect.

I'm excited to tell you about a class I am teaching at Stamp Your Art Out in Cincinnati on Oct. 27. I have fallen in love with Ranger's Claudine Hellmuth Studio Line paints. (perhaps this should be called a Paint It Up class but, hey, the series of classes was already named! :-) ) I've shown projects on my blog and talked about how wonderful these are to work with. And on her sticky back canvas? Heaven! The class is from 6-8 pm and I've kept the class size small intentionally. If it fills up please get on a wait list as I will likely add a second class. Jennifer told me that the cards we have gotten so far for the Cards for Kate drive have been so wonderful. Beautiful, creative and heartfelt. We would love to have an assortment of serious to silly cards. And we seem to have more serious cards than silly right now. So keep sending the more serious ones if you want but send along some silly ones too. Knock, knock jokes, interactive cards. Include some stickers or stamped images she can color in to give her something to do. I made a silly one for her last night:
